India-US Strategy Energy Partnership [Highlights]

The Partnership affirms the strategic importance of energy cooperation to the U.S.-India bilateral relationship and sets the stage for deeper and more meaningful engagements through government and industry channels. As leading global partners, the United States and India believe that energy cooperation can serve as a center piece in the bilateral relationship. Through the Partnership, the United States and India collectively seek to enhance energy security, expand energy and innovation linkages across the respective energy sectors, bolster strategic alignment, and facilitate increased industry and stakeholder engagement in the energy sector. Under the Partnership, the United States and India will pursue four primary pillars of cooperation :- (1) Oil and Gas; (2) Power and Energy Efficiency; (3) Renewable Energy and Sustainable Growth; and (4) Coal. Both parties may consider establishing additional pillars of cooperation based on mutual agreement. The Strategic Energy Partnership elevates the role of energy in advancing shared goals, including universal energy access, strengthened energy security and increased energy efficiency. The Partnership will create important opportunities for advancing favorable policies and commercial investments in support of these goals, including in natural gas markets. In keeping with the shared objectives to provide a stronger business orientation to the energy cooperation, both sides have noted with appreciation the growing investment of Indian companies in the United States and the beginning of oil and gas exports from the United States to India.…

MoU b/w India and UAE on Technical Cooperation in Rail sector [Highlights]

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with the Federal Transport Authority – Land & Maritime of the United Arab Emirates on Technical Cooperation in Rail Sector. The  MoU will  enable technical cooperation in the following areas :- Regulation, safety and technical investigation of accidents; Station redevelopment; Locomotives, coaches and wagons; and Any other area jointly identified by the Participants. Benefits: The MoU will provide a platform to  Indian Railways to interact and share the latest developments and knowledge in the railway sector. The MoU will facilitate exchange of information, expert meetings, seminars technical visits and implementation of jointly agreed cooperation projects. Background: Ministry of Railways has signed MoUs for technical cooperation in the Rail sector with various foreign Governments and National Railways. Cabinet approves Agreement with France on ‘Migration and Mobility Partnership’

The Union Cabinet has approved the signing of Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement between India and France. The Agreement represents a major milestone in enhancing people-to-people contacts, fostering mobility of students, academics, researchers and skilled professionals and strengthening cooperation on issues related to irregular migration and human trafficking between the two sides. The Agreement is a testimony to India’s rapidly expanding multi-faceted relationship with France and symbolizes the increasing trust and confidence between the two sides. Cabinet approves MoU with Iran for establishment of an expert group on trade remedy measures

MoU b/w India–Sri Lanka for promoting cooperation in the field of IT and Electronics [Highlights]

The government of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sri Lanka for promoting cooperation in the field of Information Technology and Electronics. The MoU intends to promote closer co-operation in the areas of e-Governance, m-Governance, E-public services delivery, cyber security, software technology parks, start-ups ecosystem etc. The MoU shall be implemented by establishing a Working Group on IT&E composed of representatives of the two parties. Bilateral Cooperation in ICT domain both B2B and G2G will be enhanced. Background : The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has been mandated to promote international cooperation in the emerging and frontier areas of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) under bilateral and regional framework of cooperation. To further enhance cooperation with various countries, particularly in view of the new initiatives taken by Government of India like “Digital India”, “Make in India” etc., there is an increased need for exploring business opportunities in the technology sector which are of interest. MoU signed between India and Canada for ‘Nuclear Cooperation’

The Government of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Natural Resources of Canada concerning cooperation in the fields of science, technology and innovation. The MoU is a broad framework arrangement for enhancing cooperation in research and development activities with Canada. The MoU facilitates mutual consultations on the areas of new material development and testing, design of advanced Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs), structural components of reactor systems including inspection and quality assurance programs, sharing of operational information, nonpower application of radiation isotope technology, etc. The MoU will be valid for a period of 5 years and can be renewed further through mutual consultations. Cabinet approves Agreement with France to facilitate “Mutual Recognition of Academic Qualifications”

The Union Cabinet has given its approval to an Agreement between India and France to facilitate ‘Mutual Recognition of educational qualifications’ and periods of study undertaken by students in duly approved, recognized and/or accredited educational institutions within the 2 countries. It is historic for the first time, a government to government MoU has been signed to mutually recognize academic qualifications, which will help the student community. Apart from this MoU, 15 more MoUs between various institutions of India and France in the areas of Higher Education, Research, Innovation, Faculty exchange, Scientific Cooperation have been exchanged, such as IMPRINT, GIAN, SWAYAM and to boost innovation, research and accessibility of education in India. Cabinet approves MoU between UPSC and Public Service Commission of Mauritius

The Union Cabinet has approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and Public Service Commission of Mauritius. The MoU will strengthen the existing relationship between UPSC and Public Service Commission of Mauritius. It will facilitate sharing of experience and expertise of both the parties in the area of recruitment. The MoU will develop institutionalized linkage between the Public Service Commissions of two countries. It defines the scope of cooperation between the PSC, Mauritius and the UPSC and sets out the areas of cooperation and obligations of the parties. The areas of co-operation include the following — exchange of experience on modern approach to public service recruitment and selection, particularly the functions of the UPSC and the PSC; exchange of information and expertise including books, manuals and other documents which are not of a confidential nature; sharing of expertise in the use of Information Technology (IT) in the preparation of written examinations and holding of computer based recruitment tests and online examinations; sharing of experience in single window system for expeditious scrutiny and speedy disposal of applications; sharing of experience and expertise on the various processes involved in the examination system which are routine in nature; organizing training sessions for officials, including through short attachments to the parties secretariat/headquarters on air matters concerned by the respective mandate of the parties.…

Cooperation arrangement b/w India and Afghanistan in the field of food safety and related areas, approved

The Union Cabinet has approved the signing of a Cooperation Arrangement between Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoH&FW) and Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock (MAIL), Afghanistan for cooperation in the field of Food Safety and related areas. The areas of cooperation include the following: Establishment of a mechanism of information exchange and communication; Facilitating technical exchange  on identified topics  of interest especially about import procedures, quality control operations, sampling, testing, packaging and labeling; Facilitating/organization of joint seminars, workshops, visits, lectures, training programme, etc; Other areas of interest to the participants within their responsibilities as they may mutually determine. Cabinet approves MoU b/w India and Iran on cooperation in the field of Health and Medicine

The Union Cabinet has given its ex-post-facto approval for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Iran on cooperation in the field of Health and Medicine. The MoU will encourage cooperation between the two countries and strengthen bilateral ties between them. Cabinet approves MoU b/w India and Hellenic on ‘Renewable Energy Cooperation’

The Union Cabinet has approved signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the field of Renewable Energy between India and Hellenic. The MoU was signed by the External Affairs Minister, Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Government of India and H.E. Nikos Kotzias, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic.
